Brief

You are invited to design a cover look for Talking Turkeys to bring this original and unforgettable book to new readers. Primarily aimed at children aged 8 to 12, your design should ensure that these poems are a must-read for every child.

Your cover design needs to include all the cover copy supplied and be designed to the specified design template (B format, 198mm high x 129mm wide, spine width 7mm), incorporating the Puffin branding and all additional elements such as the barcode. Please refer to the Submissions Details page for full details on how to submit your entry.

Copyright must be cleared for all images used in your cover design and you must include a credit line on the back cover of your design for any third-party images used. For example: ‘Cover photograph by Joe Bloggs’.


Background/Considerations

  • collection of straight-talking poems about heroes, revolutions, racism, love and animal rights, among other subjects 

  • playful, clever and provocative 

  • Benjamin Zephaniah was born in Birmingham and then spent some of his early years in Jamaica, postwar writer 

  • well-known for his performance poetry with a political edge for both children and adults and gritty teenage fiction.

  • The cover should encourage children to pick the book up themselves but should also engage adults to want to buy it for them.

  • have a point of difference from other books that it will be competing
    against in the market

Brief

  • Create a textbook publication of no more than 25 pages for the Ebenezer School 

  • Content: Food pyramid with only few words description and brails 

  • Target audience: the visually impared and blind 9th grade students 

Background/Considerations

  • Ebenezer School is the only blind school in Hong Kong 

  • All graphics should be designed in monochrome so that they could be sent to the printers for laser 3d printing 

  • All graphics should be easily understood as they are for 9th grade students 

  • As target audience read the book by touching instead of looking, all graphics should designed in a simple and neat way so that lines could be distinguished easily

Brief

White studio is an Instagram online shop that is established by a friend. It is a jewellery and accessories shop that is told to be going for a minimal and clean aesthetic. However, the branding is not strong enough. 


Strengthen the branding/ rebrand (if necessary) White Studio, including a set of festive and discounts posts for their Instagram. 


Aim for a minimal and clean feed with mainly the colour white. 



Background/Considerations

  • Hong Kong based 

  • The shop constantly joins flea markets and sell their products face to face to consumers 

  • Minimal and clean style with whote as their theme colour 

  • Might want to have an interview with founder to get more information and a clear brand guideline

A brand building campaign to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Disney in 2023. 

Unique storytelling that brings people together across generations and cultures. 

Turn well-loved 90s and 00s nostalgia into hyper relevance for 2023.

Aims at reintroducing Disney to their audience in a hyper-relevant way. 


 Target audience: 

  • across Europe, Middle East and Africa 

  • Between the age of 16-30 (with a focus on 18-25)



How relevant Disney can be to their lives today? 

 How to make old fans stay? 


Background/Considerations

  • Disney isn’t just cartoons from your childhood. Disney own iconic brands including Star Wars, Marvel, Nat Geo and The Simpsons (to name just a few), plus streaming services like Disney+, theme parks   

  • Life stages if the age group

  • Current  trends that drive their media consumption 

  • History: movies to stage shows to theme parks to streaming to superheroes 

  • Disney is looking for realistic ideas that could actually run in 2023. Think about how your campaign could be scalable, and work within budgets stretching from £100k to £1m. 

  • Think about what comes to mind for young consumers today when they think of 100 years of Disney, and what they might think the next 100 years of Disney could look like.

Brief

Branding 3 specific modern locations with their historical/cultural/social contexts to strengthen locals’ cultural identity. 


The practical outcome aims at educating young people on the historical values of a place that has evolved throughout the years and that they should be conserved and being passed on. 


It also aims at a fun and weird approach which attracts travellers. 

Background/Considerations

  • the general population aren’t educated on the local history and that they are required to do research on their own to acquire relevant knowledge 

  • places have evolved a lot in terms of its land’s usage through history 

  • What we see now is being developed from its initial usage and that they have to be interrelated in some ways 

  • In order to strengthen a place’s cultural identity, educating people with their history is the best way to start

Brief

You are launching a brand/ creative label with Sonja. This has been what you guys have wanted to do for years. There is an upcoming flea market that you guys think suits your style a lot and are very interested to join. 


You need to establish a brand that is going for a street and casual style. The ultimate goal of the brand aims to create a collaborative community that gathers local creatives. . 




Background/Considerations

About 

The brand is both an experimental project of two Graphic Design students and a platform to showcase the work of local artists/ designers. We hope to build a little, yet supportive creative community in HK, sharing ideas, stories and expertise throughout the space. Through trial and error, we’re taking small steps to achieve our goals, pushing ourselves while highlighting the many local talents along the way.

They are going for a street and casual style. The tee should be oversized that could be worn by everyone of different styles.

  • Larp6Sarp3 is having their first product launch at a flea market. It is their first time selling their products. 

  • It would be good if the two tshirt designs are of the same collection

Choose a specific snack brand and redesign their packaging for them using the Japanese style of snack packaging.

  • The snack section from Japanese supermarkets are always so overwhelming that we do not know where to start 

  • Are all brands packaging suitable to be redesigned using the Japanese style? 

  • Are there many different Japanese food packaging styles? 

  • Claustrophobic? Minimal?
