Cancel culture and virtue signalling in fashion is toxic
By The Fashion Archive (28Mar2019)
- virtue signalling: saying things that give you the moral highground and make you appear that you are morally better than others bc you have a certain opinion, but what you do doesn’t match with the things you say.
- Its about acting upon the issue, not only saying and seeing people that you care
- To educate and call people out when they’re wrong
- Gucci’s cancelled blablaba, but those people don’t actually support black designers
- Black brands: Pyre Moss RESEARCHHHH
- Education is key to combat racism
- Dolce gabbana is racist
- Virtue signalling
- Fashion specific

diversity vs tokenism By T1J (Jan25 2020)
- Tokenism, tokenisation
- Token minority person
- Supervisual , minimal effort is made to be inclusive to minorities
- Give the appearance of inclusivity
- No reason of them being there, no purpose of using them
- Sitcoms
- Token minority character
- How do you know the character is a token, difficult to determine
- “i am not racist”
- Workplace: hire minorities with the primary goal of avoiding criticism and creating a shallow appearance of diversity
- Doesn’t mean that the person isn’t valued
- As a black person, its efficient to take advantage of opportunities to increase your standing in the world, even the intention is superficial
- Intent matters!!
- How to know if it is tokenism
- 1 Diversity
- 2 Equity
- 3 Inclusion
- Is it ongoing?
- Equal access to resources, same salary as others?
- Diversity without inclusion
- Individual human beings
- Not representatives of a groups they happen to be in
