I started off by sketching out a typeface that I would like my logotype to look like. I began by drawing a rectangle as the grid as it was the first thing I thought of when it comes to the word "short". I would like the characters too looks like they are compressed and literally short. I then scanned them through into my laptop and traced the sketch with my pencil tool on photoshop. I traced the initial digital sketch again to get more solid lines. I used Kyle Rough Basic brush to get rugged textured edges.
I then played around with the layout and spacings. As the serifs of the type is long, it took a while for me to figure out the best spacings. I also thought that adding some illustration into the logo would make it look less boring and fun. Therefore I tried adding a pair of shoes at the bottom to make the O and the I look like a mascot. I also tried sketching out different things like a mouth, teeth and footprint onto the logo to "humanise" it.
However the letters still look very unrefined as they are drawn by hand without a symmetrical grid. The tracking and kerning look very messy. I then tried spacing them out letter by letter and placed them into a circle for my Instagram's profile picture.
