[LARP6SARP3_BRANDING] Pop-up market introduction + first brainstorm

Last summer in August, me and my friend Sonja, who is also a graphic design student had decided to finally build our own creative label/ brand. We had been talking about this for years until we saw this post on Instagram.

THUR is a music collective that we have been followed for long and were throwing this 2-day pop-up market DJ party, asking people to join them and sell goods. The market is of a cyberish and y2kish theme and we thought it would be really interesting to design our own products and launch them in the market. We messaged THUR and applied for a booth unit.

BRAINSTORMING

Initial name ideas

  • 辣殺 another way of saying trash in cantonese with a foreign accent
  • TRASH
  • LARPSARP
  • LARP6SARP3

We both agreed to name our brand "TRASH". This is a really ironic name and its like mocking ourselves of not being good enough. The idea behind the name is treasure hunting. Like thrifting, people hunt clothes and look for goods at a thrift store and its like treasure hunting in a bunch of abandoned items. However, we thought that TRASH would be too basic for a brand's name and might sound too "hype beast" which is not what we were going for. We came up with the idea of LARPSARP which is the cantonese of "TRASH". It adds a local element into the brand and we liked it that way. We later added larp6sarp3, the 6 and 3 in it as it is the official way of translating the pronunciation of cantonese into English. The 6 and 3 are the accent of the two character.

Aims

  • To create a collective/ creative label/ brand that showcases local artists work
  • help local artists and designers gain exposure.
  • to have our first product launch as a collective "LARP6SARP3"
