[EX COLLAB] Collaboration first meeting

My collab partner: Theodora, studies Conservation under the faculty of Architecture

I had a meeting with Theodora and talked about what she has learnt from her course and got a brief idea of the ciricculum of her course

What is conservation?

- place making

- cultural mapping

—> connection btwn building ppl and community

—> determine the needs of the neighbourhood

- interpretation

—> review the historical / architectural/ social significance of a specific building

—> to to in sync with the modern society without losing tis original character

design

—> what has to be changed

—> to fit the building regulations now

- utilitarian designing methods

—> pro: mass production

—> do not care about people’s living quality

THOUGHTS

- about interaction between people and building

- how people use the place and how the building could be improved to accommodate people’s needs

Design approach:

functionality,  safety / design wise renewing

idea1. renewing old typefaces like the gothic typeface into something less serif like —> modernise

- installation

idea2. interaction, central district, making typeface installations on stairs for people to interact

idea3. based on significant characteristics of different districts’ public housing estates to create typefaces for each district

- the characteristics of a place is not necessarily related to the buildings, human interaction is the key, if the people move, the characteristics move

idea4. strengthening the place’s characteristics

IDEA3

- branding a place

- Mong kok

- young people hub —> make ti fun

- historical values and modern values

- *strengthening the places’ characteristics by bring up the historical values

- street names in realtion to historical values
